Can you guess the Topic of this Post.
First Let me say I hate Recycling I know we need to do it and I know its good for us and the planet I just think it is the most unorganised cumbersome way of doing something that should be easy. I read about different countries practises and it seems to be a globally Miss managed effort. Saying that some countries are re visiting how to make it better like Australia .
So let me start with an experience I had a few years ago. I am at a landfill some where in British Columbia. Naming no one... and I have a very mixed load of garbage I have to separate the usual items wood, metal, gyp rock, electronics, house hold waste, glass, tires, roofing, porcelain and cardboard of course. I am at my second to last stop and it is house hold garbage with cardboard last on the way out. I am standing there with the Dump guy when I see a garbage truck pull up and back in. If you do not know it as they load there trucks at each stop they compress the garbage so they can fit lots in. When they unload the back flips open and a giant hydraulic wall at the front of the truck pushes out the garbage like the truck is taking a dump in slow motion in a horizontal fashion out the back.
Well what do I see as it pukes out everything that I have just separated into half a dozen piles in different locations all around the dump and it is putting them in the house hold area only to be buried by dirt. Now in the middle is a small garden shed sized lump of compressed cardboard. I was shocked. Now I am told this does not happen any more but I am not totally convinced at all.
I believe in recycling and its motto that is to avoid,
reduce, reuse, recycle, energy recover, and landfill, with the latter being the least
desirable outcome model.
Well this is some suggestions I have and Number one on my list is Don't let manufactures ship items of any kind in anything that is not recyclable it is just wrong. It should be against the law.
Styrofoam.Non-Biodegradable
Styrofoam appears to last forever, as it is resistant to photolysis, or the breaking down of materials by protons originating from a light source. This, combined with the fact that Styrofoam is lightweight and therefore floats, means that over time a great deal of polystyrene has accumulated along coasts and waterways around the world. It is now considered the main component of marine debris.
Styrofoam is manufactured by using HFCs, or hydrofluorocarbons, which have negative impacts on the ozone layer and global warming. HFCs are less detrimental to the ozone than CFCs, which they replaced in the manufacturing of Styrofoam, but it is thought that the impact of HFCs on global warming is much more serious.Styrofoam appears to last forever, as it is resistant to photolysis, or the breaking down of materials by protons originating from a light source. Non-Sustainable
Another reason that Styrofoam is harmful for the environment is that it is made with petroleum, which is a non-sustainable resource. Additionally, petroleum production creates heavy pollutionWell sorry to bore you with details but it is bad shit and for the most part gets buried by dirt in your local landfill.
I believe every house hold should have a device or power tool to help you deal with your recycling,
Such as cardboard is very recyclable and with modern technology why cant we have a cross between a wood chipper and paper shredder that we feed our cardboard Thur and it CUTS it in to bits that goes in a garbage bag. Easy Peezy .. Wood is sustainable if we recycle it.
The fire wood I cut is all from Wind Falls they are laying down decomposing and they help heat your homes in wood stoves. :^)
Aluminium cans. Well do we really need to stack them and stack them and stack them. GeeezWeeezzz.
Can't we at least crush the damn things. Did you know.
Making aluminium from
recovered scrap cans takes 95% less energy than using raw materials. Recycling makes
these materials available again for manufacturing new products, which is a better use
of both materials and energy.
I don't know maybe its just me but I think we can be so stupid as people and following a model that is so flawed is better than doing nothing but I think it could be easier for everyone.
I also believe our planet is worth saving now the people in it. HAA.
One last thing Do we need 50 different Kinds of Plastic containers You need a PHD in Plastic to figure out which is and which is not and what goes in what category. How about one kind and yes a shredder in your house or one shared in your complex that shreds the plastic soap container or what ever that you had to wash 10 times.
Thanks again for your Time.
